Adolescent / Youth Therapy

Second only to early childhood, adolescence is the period of the most growth; physiologically, cognitively, and socially. Combined with mounting pressures from within and without, this stage of life can be very overwhelming for many young people. Sometimes this state of overwhelm can lead youth to shutting down or developing symptoms of anxiety to help cope.

Young people at this stage of life are stepping out into the world searching for and claiming their identity, they are looking outward for a sense of self-worth, and are trying to find a sense of belonging outside of their family unit. Given these known developmental goals it makes them especially vulnerable to feelings of shame, anxiety, depression, and low self-esteem (to

name a few).

Through a trusted and non-judgmental counselling relationship, young people can have a safe space to discuss the most important issues in their lives, they can be introduced to healthy coping strategies to help protect against being anxiety and depression, and they can experiment with proven counselling interventions to help explore and challenge the connections between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviours.

Specialities include:

  • LGBTQ2+

  • Anxiety

  • Depression

  • Self esteem

Key to Success

Clients ages 11-18 years old fall in the adolescent / youth category. Confidentiality remains the same for any client irrespective of age. Even when a parent / caregiver is financially responsible for the fees, the client is entitled to their privacy. The only time that discussions around the client leave the therapeutic session is if they are in danger of harming themselves or another.

The number one deciding factor in successful therapy is the relationship with the therapist. The client need to feel a connection in terms of communication, trust, comfort and safety during your sessions. Our role is to listen and collaborate with you in your unique situation, without any judgement, while providing unwaivering support.   Choosing a therapist is difficult which is why we offer complimentary calls for both the youth and the parent/care giver to see if we are the right fit for each other.
